UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
(UMW)

The United Methodist Women's organization was founded over 135 years ago. It has always had an emphasis on missions and outreach to women and children throughout the world. Our own group is over 100 years old. It is an active, caring hard working and fun loving group of ladies who are always willing to use their talents to raise funds for mission projects internationally and locally. They support each other, our church family, our community, and encourage each other in their Spiritual growth. Our Mission projects are numerous. Many hours are devoted to Monarch School, New Entra Casa, Operation Christmas Child, Good Neighbor Center, and Storefront Shelter.

   There is a book group, a prayer group, and an exciting new quilt ministry was started in 2004. In addition UMW members can always be counted on to host special events, receptions, and memorial services at out church.

   We welcome all women of the church to join us for fellowship. We have one evening Circle and one morning Circle. They meet once a month from September to May. There is also a monthly combined meeting.

           7:00-9:00 PM - "The Patriarchs" a Beth Moore Bible Study, facilitated by
                                          Jane New.  Meets in Social Hall.

        Wednesday
             9:15 - 11:15 AM - Community Bible Study (CBS).  Meets at St.Paul's in the                                 Sanctuary
            3:16 PM - High School Guys Bible Study.  Meets in Church Library.
            7:00 PM - Healing Class," The Spiritual Gift Shop", with Hal Weeks.  Meets at                              home of Hal & Ginny Weeks, Apt. U111, Coronado Bay Club                             Resort, 1527 1st St.(435-7556).

Prayers & Squares Quilting Ministry
 

Can you touch a prayer?  Can you pull it close and feel its comfort?
You can if it is part of a prayer quilt.

The idea behind these quilts is simple, yet powerful.  A heavy thread is used to take stitches through the quilt layers. and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot.  As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is offered for someone in special need - someone who has asked to be prayed for.  The quilt is then given to that person.  What makes each quilt so special is not the pattern, color or workmanship, but the fact that prayer is symbolically tied into each one.  These comforters are a statement of faith, and a testimony to our belief in God and in the power of prayer.
At St. Paul's we also provide baptismal squares and patriotic squares for the congregation and friends.  The regular prayer square (about 15" square) has also been well received as a gift of prayer and love.
Prayers & Squares began in 1992 in San Diego.  Since then it has expanded to over 260 chapters in churches across the nation and in Australia and the Marshall Islands.  Thousands of quilts have been distributed, each a special gift of love.  They have been made for sick babies, for cancer and AIDS patients, for adults and children facing surgery or difficult family situations.

Caring Committee

The members of the Caring Committee consist of those who have a burden to provide comfort and support to the ill, handicapped and elderly.  They meet every second month to plan and coordinate events that meet their purpose and to insure that no needy person is unattended.
Some of these events are a continuing function of sending cards of love and encouragement to the ill and shut-ins, an annual ice cream social, poinsettias at Christmas time and May baskets in the spring.

YOUTH GROUPS

SEVEN Youth Groups for Sr. High and Middle School students meet 7:00-9:00PM in Social Hall

    St. Paul’s has an active youth program encompassing high school and middle school students from all reaches of Coronado and Imperial Beach.   

    The thrust of the teaching in the weekly meetings is toward presenting Jesus Christ as the model for our lives and leads to an opportunity for each kid to make a sincere commitment to Christ as their Lord and Savior. For those youth who make such a commitment, or desire to know more about it, several small group bible studies are available, led by the Youth Director and volunteer leaders.
